The primary on July 20 still left some Paulding offices unresolved.
On Election Day, poll workers at the Watson Government Complex said there was a steady stream of voters casting ballots. Their votes however were split prompting an Aug. 10 runoff.
From the number of runoffs, the people who did come out to vote were divided.
There will be a number of runoff elections as several candidates did not accumulate the 50 percent plus one to decisively win their race. The Post 2 Commissioner race will see a runoff between Todd Pownall and Beverly Cochran
“Voters in Paulding now have a clear choice of electing someone with the knowledge and experience to protect their interests, and I am confident that the voters will make the right choice on Aug. 10 knowing I will represent them” says Cochran.
Candidates David Barnett and Tony Crowe will compete in a runoff for Post 4 Commissioner.
Incumbent District Attorney Drew Lane and Dick Donovan will return to the ballots as well. Other Paulding County candidates amassed enough of the populous’ vote to win.
Tommie Graham will remain as Post 3 Commissioner. Board of Education candidates Nick Chester in District 2, Sammy McClure Jr. for District 5, and Kim Curl for District 6, all were re-elected. Representative Phil Gingrey will continue serving for District 11 in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Paulding voters also voted to continue its SPLOST by 52 percent.
According to the Georgia Secretary of State elections division, the results have been certified by both county election superintendents and the Secretary of State.
